3 Ways To Make Your Ford Truck Environmentally Friendly
Posted on: 16 August 2017
You have always wanted a Ford truck. The problem is, you are concerned about the environment and you know Ford doesn't plan on making a hybrid truck until 2020. The good news is, that just because there are no hybrid Ford trucks, doesn't mean you can't still buy a Ford pickup while doing your part to help the environment. Here are three ways to make your Ford truck environmentally friendly.
Use an Alternative Fuel
Did you know that there are other types of fuel, besides diesel and regular gas that you can use in Ford trucks? A few popular examples of alternative fuels include:
- Bioalcohol fuel - popularly known as E85, this ethanol fuel is made with fermented sugars that usually come from plants such as corn and sugar beets. This fuel burns more cleanly and can help to reduce greenhouse gases.
- Propane - Because of its lower carbon content, propane is also considered a clean-burning fuel. Using propane is another way to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that get emitted into the ozone.
It should be noted that while you can put bioalcohol fuel directly into your gas tank, your Ford truck will have to be custom built in order to run on propane, or you can get a conversion kit installed.
Use Green Motor Oil
Even motor oil is going green. This environmentally-friendly type of motor oil gets made from converting saturated cow fat into unsaturated oil that can be used in pickup trucks. Like regular motor oil, it can be used in Ford trucks with the following types of engines:
- Naturally aspirated
- Turbocharged
- Supercharged diesel
- Gasoline
To further protect the environment, companies that make the green motor oil package it in containers that are 100% recyclable.
Use Gas Saving Methods While Driving
One of the easiest and least expensive ways to make your Ford truck environmentally friendly is to use gas-saving methods while driving. By getting better gas mileage, you can help to use less energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. If you drive 55 mph instead of 65 mph, you can improve your gas mileage by 10 to 15%.
Other things you can do to save gas while driving include:
- Turning off the air conditioning
- Not letting your vehicle sit idling for more than 30 seconds
- Make sure your tires are properly inflated
By using alternative fuels, green motor oil, and finding ways to improve your gas mileage, you can drive your Ford truck while being sensitive to the environment.
